My Steampunk Hat.

I created two 12"x 12" pages using photos of the Steampunk Hat that I made.

 I painted the chipboard and letters black and then when they were dry, I added gold acrylic paint with a fan brush.

TECHNIQUES

 

Background made with mists, stencils, stamps and ink.

 

  Hint: I pour my mists over in smaller mister bottles and dilute them with Alcohol. I attach the small misters to the bottles with elastics. Caution: When working with alcohol, make sure you are in a well ventilated area.

Gentlemen.

 

 I used a photo of my grandfather Jan Smit seated and an unknown gentleman. 

The photo was taken Circa 1930 possibly in Clanwilliam, Cape Provence, South Africa.

   

 There is more information on the tags. The photo was restored and colorized by Restoring and Coloring Old Family Pictures, a Facebook group. The layout is 12" x 12". I have scrap booked photos of my grandfather before, you can see the layouts here and here.

MY INSPIRATION

I used a paper gift-bag which I got from a friend as a background.

Some of the other supplies and tools I used were: A Black Zig Millennium pen, Martha Stewart Edge Punch—Oval Border, card-stock, Acrylic cling stamps, Acrylic stamping blocks, Forever in time tape/ruler sticker, Foam pads, Forever in time Alphabet stickers, reinforcement rings, acrylic paint, a paint-brush, nail-polish (to paint the tops of the brads, brads, ribbon, paper trimmer, photo trimmer, corner rounder (nail clipper) Hot-glue, pen nib, ink-pad, eye-shadow applicator, Dymo tape, a Dymo machine, pencil, eraser, paper piercer, hole piercer,  paperclip curl, etc.

 

I covered the paper with Matt Modge Podge by Plaid,  using a foam brush, to seal possible for acidity. Here it is being flattened under a piece of glass.

I created a Mixed Media and Altered art style layout, which is 12″x 12″.

I used Ephemera by Dover free clip art.

I printed the clip-art in black and white, covered it and the stamped roman column with Modge Podge Matt by Plaid and then I added mist spray when it was dry.

Fun Fact: I asked My Facebook group to name the lady and they did.

My inspiration was Layered Mixed media collage by Kim Grant from the Fall 2005- Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine.



Hint: I use hairspray to seal glue, spray, etc. that won't dry, even with a hairdryer.

   

I covered the Chipboard letters and Maya road Fresh Chipboard scrolls 2, with acrylic paint, mist, sand, etc. The gauze was colored with mist. I used Pritt all purpose glue to attach them all as well as the Acrylic Flat Back Gems . I am not sure if the glue is acid-free, on the website is does mention for photos, I found that the glue makes bubbles on paper.
 

I made the background on whiter card-stock with tissue-paper, fibers and Podge Matt by Plaid. 

The patterned paper is Artist paper designed by Eirene Nguyen with art elements by Lynette Perrella from Stampington and company, which I covered with glitter lace, Perfect Pearls Mist, etc.

I created one 12"x 12" page. My inspiration was Witching you a Merry Christmas by Cheryl Lindsay from Murrieta, California, U.S.A. in the Nov/Dec 2016  Somerset Studio magazine.

 

  Some of the supplies and tools I used were: Patterned paper Pizzaz sheets by Hot off the press, Walnut Ink Tsuneko, Clear Scraps-Mascils-12 x 12 Masking Stencil-Sprockets Gears, Clear Scraps-Mascils -12 x 12 Masking Stencil-Cog Wheels, alphabet stamps, card-stock, hot glue, glue gun acrylic paint, Tombow adhesive, eye-shadow applicators, ink-pads, wood alphabet and number, Hairspray, black mist spray etc.

Making the Hot Glue Embellishments:

Mannequin Doll Template. 

I printed the template on paper.
I worked on a glass sheet that I had.
Because I am working on a glass sheet I can turn it around.
I taped the template onto the glass sheet with painter’s tape.
I taped wax paper over the template.
Heat glue gun for at least 5 minutes.
Have glue sticks ready.
When the glue gun was hot enough,
I traced the design with Hot glue on top of the wax paper.
I find it very relaxing to trace the lines.

Wait for the glue to harden.
Hint: Melt away the glue gun strings with a hairdryer.
Soak the embellishments  in water to remove it from the wax-paper and clean the back with Rubbing alcohol, to remove the last bits of paper. Use tweezers to remove stubborn pieces of paper from inside the holes.
I covered the glue with layers of acid-free paint.
Please note, do not use Hot glue for photos, the heat and acidity can harm your photos.
