Top Bridge Park.

We visited Top Bridge Park while we camped at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada during our recent vacation. We were fortunate to see fish jumping, possibly Salmon, but they were too quick to photograph.

Top Bridge Park.

"Top Bridge Park is a favourite local swimming hole where residents and visitors can spend a sunny afternoon cooling off in the waters of the Englishman River. The park is also an opportunity to reconnect with nature. One of Top Bridge's best kept secrets is the petroglyphs, which can be seen by observant visitors to the park. According to a local historian, three separate and distinct First Nations carvings, discovered by a local fisherman in 1940, can be found on the rocks near the river." - Parksville

Black Bears.

We saw some Black Bears along the road, near Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada during our recent vacation.

"American Black Bears (Ursus americanus) are found across North America, from Northern Mexico, to over 30 US states, to all the provinces and territories of Canada, except for Prince Edward Island."

"The size of an adult male black bear can range from 50 to 75 inches and they can anywhere from 130 to 660 pounds. Adult females are also between 50 and 75 inches tall, but weigh 90 to 175 pounds. At birth, a cub usually weighs about 7 to 11 ounces.""Black bears are omnivores and will feed whatever is available: insects, nuts, berries, grasses and other vegetation, as well as meat, such as deer or moose, particularly the young. Salmon is also a common food for black bears in British Columbia."

"Breeding season is June, July and August, and the two bears will remain together for only a few hours or at most several days. Black bears are very solitary, except for females with cubs. The pregnancy lasts about 220 days, with cubs being born in January and February (in a maternity den). The litters range between 1 and 5 cubs, though 2 is the average. Cubs stay with their mothers for about a year and a half, so mating is limited to every two years." - Bears in B.C.

Coombs 2022

While we were camping at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada during our recent vacation. We visited Coombs again. Coombs is situated between Nanaimo, Qualicum, Cathedral Grove, Port Alberni, Tofino and Ucluelet.

“The original market was created by Kristian Graaten. Kris and his wife, Solveig, emigrated with their children to Vancouver Island from Norway in the 1950s. Kris, who grew up in the small community of Lillehammer, was inspired to include a sod roof in his design of the market. Many Norwegian homes and farm structures are built directly into the hillside with the sod roof becoming an extension of the hillside. With the help of sons, Svein and Andy, and son-in-law, Larry, Kris unwittingly began to build what would become perhaps the most famous sod-roof building in the world.”

Nanaimo Harbour-2022

While we were camping at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada during our recent vacation. We visited Nanaimo Marina, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. on a lovely sunny day. It's one of our favourite places to visit, you can see more posts from 2015 and 2010 as well as 2009

Englishman River Falls 2022

After we left Miracle Beach Provincial Park, we camped for a week at Englishman River Falls Provincial Park, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada during our recent vacation. The campground has lovely scenery, friendly camp staff and neat campsites. The camp is children and dog friendly. Nearby attractions include Englishman River Falls, Coombs, Goats on the roof, Cathedral Grove, Little Qualicum falls, etc.

We camped there before in 2019 and in 2015. We also visited the falls in 2008.

Erik loved the river.

“Established in 1940, the 240-acre park was named as the result of an old legend, wherein First Nations people found the skeleton of a white man along the river near the waterfall, thereby giving the falls its name. The area was declared parkland to protect the old growth Douglas Fir forest and the area around the Englishman River and the falls. ” – Vancouver Island beyond Victoria.

There was a fire ban due to the drought, so we used our portable propane fire pit in the evenings.

We saw many stars at night and even a bank of Starlink satellites launched by Elon Musk's SpaceX company.

Salish Orca.

After we left Saltery Bay, Provincial Park, on the Sunshine coast of British Columbia, Canada during our 2022 Vacation. We took the ferry from Powell River to Comox on Vancouver island.

It was a lovely though windy day.
